Philippines SIM Card
Roaming with carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint is expensive and, depending on the carrier, does not give you the option to have high speed data. In addition, roaming with your carrier does not give you the possibility of having important features such as having a local phone number which is a huge detriment if you are counting on having friends and family in the Philippines call you. We offer the Smart SIM card for the Philippines. The service is prepaid, ensuring that you will always know how much you spend and that you will not get an unexpected bill when you return back to home. The initial SIM card has some credit on it. You can add additional credit as needed at virtually any convenience store in the Philippines. This is the largest carrier in the Philippines and the carrier that offers the best coverage in the Philippines.
While the SIM card comes with a Philippine phone number, you can also add a US based phone number to make it convenient and affordable for people in the USA or Canada to reach you. If you prefer to keep your usual number, you can forward your current number to the new number. Alternatively, you can give your contacts your new number so that only a select few individuals can reach you. Each $19 bundle will give you 76 minutes of incoming calls.
US Number Add-on
Your Philippines SIM card comes with a Philippines phone number which is great for when the locals call you but not so great when people from the US or Canada need to reach you. You can add a US number to your SIM card for just $19. This way, you will have a Philippines number as well as a US number. If you want, you can forward your current US number to the new one ensuring that you are seamlessly reachable. Otherwise, you can give select individuals your new US number.
The initial SIM card comes with 300 pesos of credit, which is about $6 of credit. The below rates are in US dollars and are approximations of the exact rates, which fluctuate daily to the exchange rate.
- Domestic Talk Rates
- Talk Rates to US/Canada*
- Text / SMS Rates
$.02 domestic / $.35 intl.
- Internet/Data Service
$0.12 per 15 minutes
For most people, having the ability to have data on their phones is even more important that being able to make and receive phone calls. Many users prefer chatting or Face Time or using apps such as WhatsApp in order to communicate and in fact, Cellular Abroad recommends using these apps in order to stay in contact as they are typically less expensive than calling plus they offer a better experience than a standard call. High speed data costs $0.12 for each 15 minutes of service. If you connect for 1 minute or for up to 15 minutes, you will be charged this flat rate. You will only be charged when and if you are using data. Please be advised that you should turn off data on your phone when you are not using it so that you do not deplete the credit on your SIM card.
Will this SIM card work with my cell phone?
If your phone is unlocked and has the 900/1800 Mhz bands, it will work for voice calls. If it is unlocked and has the 3G 2100 Mhz band, it will work for data. Most Verizon phones are now unlocked but please check with your carrier to make sure your phone is indeed unlocked or if they can unlock it.
How do I know if my phone is unlocked?
You cannot tell physically if your cell phone is unlocked. If you purchased it through Verizon recently, then you probably have an unlocked cell phone. Most providers, such as Sprint, AT&T, etc., lock their phones and will only unlock it after it is out of contract. Your best bet is to check with your carrier.
Do you offer micro and nano SIM cards?
Yes we do.
How do I know if I need a standard, micro or nano SIM card?
Check with your carrier or Google your model number and ask what SIM size it uses. Most Samsung Galaxy phones use micro SIMs, the iphone 5/6 uses a nano SIM.
How good is the coverage?
This is the largest carrier in the Philippines and while no carrier on the planet can guarantee total coverage, chances are you will have coverage virtually everywhere you go.
Where can I get more call/data credit?
We currently do not offer more initial credit because it is very easy to purchase online or in convenient stores throughout the Philippines.
Will it work as soon as I land?
Yes it will.
When do I get my phone number(s)?
As soon as we ship the SIM card to you, you will receive the phone numbers.
How much will it cost people in the USA/Canada to call me on my Australian number?
It is an international outgoing call, for the dialer from the US, to reach you on your Philippine number, so their rate depends on their plan through their carrier. A great option is to add the "US Number" feature to your service.
Can I keep my usual number?
Yes you can. Purchase the US Number add on and forward your current number to the new one (ask your carrier what the procedure is). This is ideal for business travelers who need to be reached at all times but is also a double edged sword for travelers going for a bit of rest and relaxation as anyone who calls your usual number will reach you. Another option is just to give a select few your new US number.
Can I use the SIM card next year when I go to the Philippines?
You need to add call credit at least once every 90 days in order to retain the phone number so, while yes you could retain the number, you may be better of just purchasing a new SIM card next time you travel.
