International Data SIM Card

Our pay as you go international data SIM card is the perfect solution for travelers to Europe, Asia, Latin America as well as the United States and Canada, who need an easy to use and affordable way of accessing the internet through their wireless device.

The SIM card is plug and play and offers 1GB of data for up to 1 year. The SIM card is reloadable, meaning, you can add additional data credit as needed. Each additional 1GB of data credit will extend the validity for another year. In addition, the initial credit will rollover and be added to the new credit. The service is pay as you go and therefore, there are no contracts to sign nor bills to pay.

Simply put the data SIM card into any unlocked mobile device, including smartphones, tablets and wireless hotspots, turn on the device and you are ready to access the internet.

Travelers are highly susceptible to security breaches. Hackers target tourists and in fact, 90% of all security breaches occur in hotels and tourist spots. Free WiFi exposes travelers to potential security breaches and is always a risk. That "free" WiFi can potentially cost you thousands of dollars and ruin your trip. Using your device through the 3G network great reduces potential for security issues.

Cost Effective

Many carriers' international data plans are not only difficult to understand but they offer painfully slow service and are often very expensive. With our International Data SIM, you know exactly what you are paying - and at a great price

How It Works

1) Order

Place an order either online or by calling our customer service hotline. Please be sure to specify if you need a standard, micro or nano SIM. Tip: if you order 2 weeks or more prior to your departure, Cellular Abroad offers free ground shipping.

2) Insert the SIM into your tablet or cell phone.

Make sure your cell phone is unlocked (not applicable for tablets). The SIM card is plug and play and will give you 1GB of data or more if you have added additional data.

3) Access the Internet

Turn on your device to access the internet. As long as there is 3G coverage in the countries where service is available, you will be able to access the internet.

4) When you return

Keep the SIM card for your next trip or use it in the United States or Canada.

Data SIM Card FAQs

Why do I need a data SIM card?

If you need a convenient and affordable way to have data connectivity for your phone, tablet or hotspot, a Cellular Abroad data SIM card is the easiest way to do so and is also much less expensive than roaming with Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T or other carriers. In addition, since the service is pay as you go, you do not risk incurring a huge roaming bill.

Why don't I just use wifi?

Some people can. If you do not need to access the internet often then the internet at your hotel, if available, or wifi at cafés or other places in town may be fine. Keep in mind that wifi is not as prevalent in Europe or Latin America as it is in North America. In addition, just like back home, you may want to have internet access at your fingertips. This is particularly important when traveling so you can use apps such as Google Maps, Skype and research places.

Can I get a micro or a nano SIM card?

Yes. You have this option before you add the item to your cart.

How to I activate my SIM?

Put it in your device. It's that simple!

Can I add additional credit?

Yes, you can add additional data credit. Simply order it online or call Cellular Abroad and we will add if for you.

Does the credit expire?

The data credit is good for 365 days from the first day of usage.

Does the SIM card expire?

The SIM card expires in 365 days from the first day of usage unless you add additional data. Each time you add credit extends the expiry date another 365 days. The credit will be added to any remaining credit.

How far in advance should I order?

You can order a data SIM card at any time prior to your departure or even during your trip. However, if you order it 2 weeks or more before your trip, you can take advantage of the free shipping.

How much data do I need?

This varies considerably from user to user but, on average, a PC user will use between 100-200MB per day, a tablet user about half that and a smartphone about 25-50MB.

How much data do emails use?

On average, 50MB will get you about 250 emails unless there are heavy files or attachments associated with them.

How much data does Skype use?

A 15 minute video call about 10mb. A 15 minute audio call about half that. As a rule of thumb, any place where there is a city or town will have great coverage but there is no such thing as "coverage everywhere." Even in cities such as New York and Los Angeles, there will be areas with no converage. Rural areas or, for example, a villa in the middle of Tuscany often do have coverage but not always. Feel free to ask us and we will check the coverage, the approximate coverage. The only way to know 100% if there is coverage in a particular place, like a villa, is to ask someone or to go there. For example, there may be coverage in a villa 100 feet away but not at another one. In sum however, coverage is very good.
