Rudy Maxa

Rudy Maxa is a highly respected veteran writer and is considered one of America's premier consumer travel experts whose writings and radio and television shows have helped save thousands of travelers both time and money. Rudy has written and continues to write numerous articles on travel. His bi-weekly commentaries as "The Savvy Traveler" on public radio's "Marketplace" are heard by almost 5 million listeners.

Pauline Kenny

Pauline Kenny is the founder and one of the moderators of Slow Travel is resource guide and online community that discusses and reviews travel accomodations and gives useful information regarding situations that many travelers encounter during their vacations. Michael Gilbert

Michael Gilbert is a director at STA Travel, an international travel company that caters primarily to the specific needs of students. STA Travel boasts over 1 Billion dollars in yearly sales and has over 400 branches worldwide. STA Travel is a recognizable feature on many US campuses. Michael is an extremely knowledgeable veteran of the travel industry and is a seasoned traveler. He is an invaluable asset to the STA Travel organization and Cellular Abroad welcomes him on our panel of judges as we are sure he will bring the same sense of commitment to our contest.


Bruce McIndoe

Cellular Abroad has been fortunate enough to have gathered 5 extremely accomplished professionals in the travel industry to judge our contest. Travel security has become and ever increasingly pertinent issue in today's world and Cellular Abroad greatly appreciates Mr. McIndoe's willingness to partake in judging our annual contest. Currently, the Chairman and CEO of iJet, Bruce is a renowned travel security expert and has worked with NBC Nightly News and MSNBC. He was recently recognized as one of the "Top 25 Most Influential People in the Travel Industry" by Business Travel News.


Michael Shapiro

We are happy to have Michael Shapiro help judge our annual event. Michael's unique background will inevitably influence his decision when helping to chose our winners.

Michael's pedigree includes a year working for CNET, an online tech guide, freelancing for The Los Angeles Times and The San Francisco Chronicle, several national magazines as well as appearances on PBS and CNN. Michael's work has exposed him to an array of remarkably adventurous situations. He has biked through Cuba and floated down the Mekong River on a Laotian cargo barge. One of his more recent accomplishments is a travel book entitled, "A Sense of Place: Great Travel Writers Talk About Their Lives, Craft and Inspiration". It will be published in September of 2004 and includes interviews with Bill Bryson, Frances Mayes, Paul Theroux, Peter Matthiessen, Tim Cahill, Jan Morris, Pico Iyer, Isabel Allende, and Simon Winchester and many others.
