Hungary (Pannon Praktikum™) Prepaid SIM Instructions

Please be sure to read these instructions prior to departing for Hungary.

If you experience any technical difficulties with your phone or SIM card and you do not contact Cellular Abroad for technical support by phone or by email during your trip, we cannot offer any refund or compensation.

Dialing information
Your phone needs to be an unlocked dual-band, tri-band or quad-band GSM phone capable of functioning on the 900/1800 MHz GSM band in order to accept the SIM card.

Your Hungary Cell to US: 001(000-1 if using PluszNulla) – area code – phone number
US to Your Hungary Cell: 011 – 36 – 10-digit number
Your Hungary Cell Number to Hungary: area code - phone number
Hungary to Your Hungary Cell Number: area code - phone number

Important: US toll free numbers are not accessible from overseas. Be sure to get valid international numbers prior to your departure

Please Note: There is no support for service when roaming outside of Hungary.

Rental Setup

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.

For SIM Card Purchases Only
Snap out the SIM chip from the SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone with the metal portion facing down as to make contact with the contact prongs.

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.
  • When prompted, enter the 4-digit PIN with your keypad. You will find it in the SIM card packaging. Consult your phone's user guide. (See section below)

PIN & PUK Codes
The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code prevents unauthorized access to the SIM card in your phone. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times in a row, the SIM card will be blocked. To un-block the SIM card, you will need to enter the PUK (Personal Unlock Key) code. Please consult your manual for how to disable the PIN-check feature.

Activating your service

  • Do not attempt to activate until you are in Hungary
  • Turn on phone
  • Your first outgoing call in Hungary will activate your service
  • If you have any trouble getting started, dial 173 <send> for help

Call Credit
Dial 171 from your handset in order to receive call credit information.

Recharging Your SIM Card:
Purchase a Recharge Card for DJuice SIM cards in Pannon GSM stores as well as petrol stores, news stands, convenience stores and post offices

  • Open up the packaging of the recharge voucher
  • Rub off the gray protective coating
  • You will see the 14-digit secret code number
  • Call the Pannon/DJuice GSM number 171 from your own mobile phone
  • Follow the instructions


  • On your handset, enter *121* Top-up Card’s 14-digit code, followed by the # sign

If you are unable to make or receive calls switch networks on your phone.  Consult your phone’s manual.  The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Available Network/Change Network > Search
  • Select a different network carrier than the one currently shown.

If you are receiving no reception bars, emergency calls only, SOS, or no service
check your phones band setting:  Consult your phone’s manual. The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Network Setup >Band
  • Make sure you select 900/1800

Customer Service
For network or service issues:

  • Dial 173 to reach customer service 24 hours a day.
  • From a landline, you may dial 06 20 200 0000.
  • From outside Hungary, dial +36 20 200 0000, press 0 to be connected to an operator and when connected, make sure to ask the service rep if they speak English. If they don't you will be asked to hold for an English-speaking representative.

Ordering PluszNulla
To order the service, call 1741 from your mobile phone. This is a free call. The PluszNulla service is free of charge and there is no activation fee.  It is not active by default.

* If you dial 000 instead of the traditional 00 international call code, you will automatically be using the PluszNulla service that uses and internet based call system. Call quality is usually only marginally compromised.

Service Life
The Hungary SIM will expire 1 year from the activation date with all unused credit being forfeited and non-refundable. Recharging your SIM card extends the validity for another year from the recharge date.

To inquire about the possibility of extending your SIM card’s service life while outside the SIM card’s country of origin contact the telecom provider's customer service, Cellular Abroad does not provide support for this feature.
