French Polynesia (Vini) Prepaid SIM Instructions

Please be sure to read these instructions prior to departing for French Polynesia. If you're consulting your phone's user guide, please defer to the instructions below with regard to the use of your French Polynesia SIM card. (Phone manuals are written in general terms.)

If you experience any technical difficulties with your phone or SIM card and you do not contact Cellular Abroad for technical support by phone or by email during your trip, we cannot offer any refund or compensation.

Dialing information
Your phone needs to be an unlocked dual-band, tri-band or quad-band GSM phone capable of functioning on the 900 MHz GSM band in order to accept the SIM card.

Your French Poly. Cell to US: 001 – area code – phone number
US to Your French Poly.  Cell: 011 – 689 – area code – phone number
Your French Poly.  Cell Number to French Poly.: area code - phone number
French Poly.  to Your French Poly.  Cell Number: area code - phone number

Important: US toll free numbers are not accessible from overseas. Be sure to get valid international numbers prior to your departure.

Please Note: There is no support for service when roaming outside of French Polynesia

Rental Setup

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.

For SIM Card Purchases Only
 
Snap out the SIM chip from the SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone with the metal portion facing down as to make contact with the contact prongs. (You'll usually find your phone's SIM tray underneath the battery of your GSM cell phone.)

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.
  • When powering-on the phone, you may be prompted for a PIN number. Your default PIN number is 0000.

PIN and PUK codes
The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code prevents unauthorized access to the SIM card in your phone. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times in a row, the SIM card will be blocked. To un-block the SIM card, you will need to enter the PUK (Personal Unlock Key) code. Please consult your manual for how to disable the PIN-check feature.

Activating Your Service

  • Go to French Polynesia
  • Turn on phone
  • Wait for display info network « F- » or « 54720 »
  • Dial 222 Follow the instructions you hear to receive your phone number and call credit
  • You are now ready to make and receive calls

Language Selection
In order to hear information such as your available credit and to add talk time, we recommend that you switch the default language from French to English.

  • Call 222 (Wait for voice prompts)
  • Press 3 (Wait for the next voice prompt)
  • Press 1

Voice Mail
Dial 222 and listen for the prompts.
To listen to your voice mail from the USA

  • Dial 011 689 754 and then follow the voice guided instructions. Voice mail calls are free.

Checking Your Credit
You may check your credit by dialing 222 and following the prompts.

Purchasing More Talk Time
To credit your Vini card with additional airtime, you will need to purchase Vini card recharge cards. These scratch cards may be in purchased in 5140XPF denominations at most convenience stores, tobacco shops and petrol stations throughout French Polynesia.

Adding Talk Time
To recharge the Vini card SIM chip with an airtime voucher proceed as follows:

  • Rub off the protective layer to reveal the recharge code.
  • A 14-digit number will be revealed
  • Dial 222 from your own mobile phone
  • Follow the instructions you hear

Troubleshooting
If you are unable to make or receive calls switch networks on your phone.  Consult your phone’s manual.  The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Available Network/Change Network > Search
  • Select a different network carrier than the one currently shown.

If you are receiving no reception bars, emergency calls only, SOS, or no service
check your phones band setting:  Consult your phone’s manual. The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Network Setup >Band
  • Make sure you select 900

Customer Service
For network or service issues:

  • Call customer service by dialing 224 at any time from your cellular phone or +689 481313 from a landline phone.

For hardware issues:

Rates
All incoming calls, regardless of where they originate, are free.

  • International rates are 185 XPF (about $2 US) per minute
  • Local calls from your cell phone are 99 XPF (about $1.07 US) per minute.
  • Domestic rates are billed on a per-minute basis. (There is no Peak or Off-peak time with your prepaid Vini card.)
  • SMS text messages are 33 XPF each.

Service Life
If the credit is not used in the 2 months, it is lost. If the Vini card is not reloaded at least once every 2 months then the SIM card and accompanying phone number will expire.

To inquire about the possibility of extending your SIM card’s service life while outside the SIM card’s country of origin contact the telecom provider's customer service, Cellular Abroad does not provide support for this feature.
