Please be sure to read these instructions prior to departing for Vietnam. If you're consulting your phone's user guide, please defer to the instructions below with regard to the use of your Vietnam SIM card. (Phone manuals are written in general terms.)

If you have received a faulty SIM card or defective phone and you do not call or email Cellular Abroad during your trip, we cannot offer any refund or compensation.                                                                                                                                 
Dialing Information
Your phone needs to be an unlocked dual-band, tri-band or quad-band GSM phone capable of functioning on the 900/1800 MHz GSM band in order to accept the SIM card.

Your Vietnam Cell to US: 001 – area code – phone number
US to Your Vietnam Cell: 011 – 84 – 9-digit number (drop the first 0)
Your Vietnam Cell Number to Vietnam: area code - phone number
Australia to Your Vietnam Cell Number: area code - phone number

Important: US toll free numbers are not accessible from overseas. Be sure to get valid international numbers prior to your departure.

Please Note: There is no support for service when roaming outside of Vietnam.

Rental Setup

• Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.

For SIM Card Purchases Only 
Snap out the SIM chip from the SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone with the metal portion facing down as to make contact with the contact prongs.

Activating Your Service

• Turn on your phone
• Call 900 <SEND>, Press 3, Press 1 to change audio menu to English
• Your first call in Vietnam will activate the service

Checking Call Credit
Dial 901 <send> from your cell phone to find your current balance on your prepaid calling account. You can also use *101# <send>. This is a free service. You will automatically be reminded when you are running low on credit.

Purchasing More Talk Time
Recharge vouchers can be purchased in Vietnam at authorized points of sale, and anywhere you see the Viettel logo displayed. Vouchers are sold in 100,000 VND (~$7 USD), 200,000 VND (~$13 USD), 300,000 VND ($20) and 500,000 VND (~$33 USD) denominations. Make sure you buy a Viettel recharge card.

Adding Talk Time

• Rub off the protective coating to reveal the 14-digit recharge number.
• From your mobile, dial 900 (a free call).
• Press 1 to recharge your account
• Key in the 14-digit number to receive the credit. A voice prompt will announce your new balance.
• If you cannot apply the credit after 5 failed attempts, your account will be locked. In this case, call 145<SEND> for assistance.

Voicemail

• To activate voicemail in the South, press 981 <SEND> (or)
• To activate voicemail in the North and in Central Vietnam, Press 941 <SEND>
• For Vietnamese, press 1. For English, press 2
• Enter your 4-digit mail password and press #
• Re-enter your secret code, then press #
• Press end button to exit your voice mailbox

You will be notified by SMS when you receive a new message in your voicemail box. To retrieve your message in the South, press 981 <SEND>. In North and Central Vietnam, press 941 <SEND>. New messages will be played.

• To repeat the message press 8
• To manage the message press #
• To play next message press 9

To retrieve from a land line:

• Dial (+84) 090 8222 222.
• For English, press 2. (For Vietnamese, press 1.)
• Enter your telephone number (starting with 090), then press #
• Enter your VM password, then press #
• Your new messages will be played one by one.

You can let callers know that by pressing * after leaving a message, they can review their message, delete and re-record it.
To change your voicemail password,

• Press 941 <SEND>
• Press 3 for Personalization
• Press 2 for Personal Info
• Press 1 for Secret Code
• Press 2 to modify your Secret code

The system already has a standard outgoing greeting. If you want to personalize the outgoing message, you can change the entire message or you can add your voice name which will replace your phone number w/ your voice name.
To record your voice name:

• Press 941 <SEND>
• Press 3 for Personalization
• Press 1 to Manage your answering machine
• Press 3 for Voice name
• Press # to Record your Voice name
• Press # to Start Recording your voice name, then press # again to finish
• Press # to confirm your Voice name

SMS
To use the service set up the Message Center number on your mobile phone. (Approximate instructions. You may also consult your phone manual.)

1. Go to your phone's Messages menu
2. Look for a submenu called "Message Settings"
3. Look for a "Message Center Number"
4. Enter Message center Number
5. The North and Central region: +84900000012
6. The South: +84900000018
7. Press <SEND> to activate the service

Troubleshooting
If you are unable to make or receive calls switch networks on your phone.  Consult your phone’s manual.  The steps will be like these:

• Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Available Network/Change Network > Search
• Select a different network carrier than the one currently shown.

If you are receiving no reception bars, emergency calls only, SOS, or no service
check your phones band setting:  Consult your phone’s manual. The steps will be like these:

• Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Network Setup >Band
• Make sure you select 900/1800

Customer Service
For network or service issues:

• Dial 145 from your Vietnam cellular phone. Customer service is available 24 hr/day.

For hardware issues:

Rates
Interval of a call is 30 seconds (30 second block unit) and the minimum call is 60 seconds. All calls are billed in 30 second increments.

Note: There is a daily charge of VND 2,000 = $0.12 USD per day the account is active.

For VoIP dialing, dial 1717 + 00 + country code + area code + phone number. (e.g. To call New York, you would dial 1717-00-1-212-555-1212.

Service Life
Your prepaid account has an initial service life of 180 days from activation. When you recharge your account, you extend the service life 180 days from the date of the recharge. If you fail to add talk time within this period, your SIM card will be de-commissioned and any remaining credit on the account will be forfeited.

To inquire about the possibility of extending your SIM card’s service life while outside the SIM card’s country of origin, contact the telecom provider's customer service, Cellular Abroad does not provide support for this feature.
