Map of Turkey
Three main points of interest of visitors to Turkey are its capital of Istanbul, the Aegean Coast, and the Mediterranean coast. With three widely different sights, feelings, and cultures within the parts of the country, the full picture of this place immerges after such exploration.
Istanbul is an amazing city that is diverse enough to include old-fashioned means of transportation alongside the most new western means and luxuries. You will see most of what is going on within the country in the city. Alive and filled with kinetic energy, visitors often touch down here first; to have a sense of the country's heart, one needs to stay in the city.
Visiting Istanbul for the first time often leans westerners with culture shock in the best possible way. Vacationing here allows something that one rarely experiences: the chance to relax while having adventure.
Physically, as well as culturally, Istanbul is divided; it's divided physically by the Bosporus. When you are ready to go beyond this city, you can cross the Golden Horn via the Galata Bridge. To the north of Istanbul lies Beyoglu and Taksim Square; directly to the south, you will find the old walled city.
Beyond this area, the way to go for sight-seeing of the classic sites of the country that are now being gloriously preserved or restored is the Aegean Coast. It runs from the border with Greece to the north all the way to Bodrum in the south. You can find all kinds of famed treasures there, including the ruins of Trop, immaculate temples, and theater in Ephesus. The glorious beaches are a sight to behold as well.
Connecting to both the Aegean Coast and Syria as its border, the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey is famous and infamous, heralded for its legacy and enjoyed for its modern reality. You can live within history, or so it seems, when you are here.
All the parts of Turkey make up a fascinating and wondrous place where frequent visitors want to always return, finding a piece of themselves in its rich and diverse climate of culture.
