Important FAQs for Rentals

  • When do I order?
    You can order as far in advance as you like - even months prior to your departure. We will not ship your rental until the appropriate date in order for you to receive it in time for your departure. Rentals are typically shipped FedEx 2-Day service, unless faster service is required.
  • What’s this going to cost me?
    • The applicable rental period fee for the duration of your rental period.
    • $29 for initial talk-time voucher (1 per phone).
    • $12.88 for round-trip FedEx Ground shipping (must be ordered 10 business days in advance of your departure to qualify) $29.96 for FedEx standard (2-day air) round-trip Shipping, add $10 to upgrade to FedEx Overnight delivery.
  • What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
    Although it's not recommended to place your order at the last minute, you can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in prior to 4pm Pacific Time. Even if you are leaving early in the morning, we can usually get your phone to you. Please call our 800 number (rather than order via the web) in order to confirm that we can get you your cell phone rental on time. Please take into account that bad weather can sometimes delay FedEx shipments. Cellular Abroad cannot refund the price of priority shipping under any circumstance.
  • When do I get the phone?
    Providing you place your order at least a week before your departure, you will typically receive your cell phone rental 2–3 days prior to your departure.
  • Does the cell phone come charged?
    Rental batteries are shipped after being charged and tested by our QA team. To prevent loss of battery life during shipping, the battery will require installation when you receive your rental phone.
  • What happens if I cancel?
    As long as your cell phone rental has not been shipped, you will be refunded all except a reservation fee ($25 per phone). In the case that your rental has been sent out, you are only responsible for a one week rental plus the shipping.
  • What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?
    That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their long distance company. 
  • Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
    Cellular Abroad does not currently offer insurance against loss, theft or damage. We recommend contacting our customer service team immediately to report lost or stolen hardware.
