Rent a cell phone for your trip to Thailand and enjoy the convenience and security of a cell phone while avoiding the high cost of roaming with a US number. Unlike traditional cell phone rental options where you pay expensive per-minute usage rates for all calls, our solution allows you to take advantage of the low rates that the locals are paying, regardless of the length of your trip. These rates are extremely advantageous and even include unlimited FREE incoming calls!

As part of your rental package, you are purchasing a prepaid Thailand SIM card. A SIM card—also known as a chip—slips easily into a GSM phone. The SIM card is the "brain" of the phone and is what allows you to make calls within Thailand or to anywhere in the world. The card is linked to a prepaid account so that you will never receive a phone bill and will always be in complete control of your expenditures. If needed, you can simply add more talk time to your account by purchasing a scratch-off recharge card and entering the unique code off the card into the handset. Since incoming calls are always free, even if you have depleted your credit you can still receive incoming calls from anywhere in the world.

Our Rental Packages
There are two rental packages available. The standard rental package features an Haier D6000 tri-band cell phone. These are all standard "candy bar"-style cell phones. Our special Motorola V66 rental features a small flip-style phone and also comes with the bonus of a car charger and an extra "backup" battery.

Together with your cellular phone rental, you receive a Thailand SIM card. The SIM card is yours to keep. It is priced at $69.00 and offers:

• Domestic outgoing rates as low as 4 baht per minute (Click here for exchange rates.)
• Rates are lower now, calls to US or Canada about 10 Baht per minute. The highest rate within Thailand is 5 Baht per minute (average 3 Baht).
• A Thailand (AIS GSM 900 MHz) SIM card and cell phone number
• Initial airtime worth 600 baht-that's 200 minutes of local calls or 60 minutes of calls back to the US or Europe.
• No yearly contract, monthly charges or credit check

All cell phone rentals include:

Thailand AIS 1-2-Call Prepaid Recharge Card only $24.00 for $500 baht of talk time credit OUT OF STOCK. Have extra talk time credit to add to your prepaid account as soon as you arrive. Each of these recharges gives about 27 minutes of calls to the US or Canada or about 157 minutes in Thailand. Incoming calls are free while at your destination.

Important FAQs for Rentals

• When do I order?
  You can order as far in advance as you like - even months prior to your departure. We will not ship your rental until the appropriate date in order for you to receive it in time for your departure. Rentals are typically shipped FedEx 2-Day service, unless faster service is required.
• What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
  Although it's not recommended to place your order at the last minute, you can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in prior to 4pm Pacific Time. Even if you are leaving early in the morning, we can usually get your phone to you. Please call our 800 number (rather than order via the web) in order to confirm that we can get you your cell phone rental on time. Please take into account that bad weather can sometimes delay FedEx shipments. Cellular Abroad cannot refund the price of priority shipping for orders placed the day before departure if the package arrives late due to the weather.
• When do I get the phone?
  You will receive your cell phone rental a day or two prior to your departure.
• Does the cell phone come charged?
  Yes it does. You need only insert the SIM chip into the rental phone's SIM card slot, which is easily done. (Please let us know if you would like for us to do this for you.)
• What happens if I cancel?
  As long as your cell phone rental has not been shipped, you will only be charged the reserve fee ($25 per phone). In the case that your rental has been sent out, you are only responsible for a one week rental plus the shipping.
• When do I get charged for my cell phone rental?
  You will be charged upon checkout for the full security deposit. Please see our Rental Agreement
• What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?
  That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their long distance company.  We recommend a company called Gorilla Mobile for those calls because they have low rates internationally and their service can even be used from a US cell phone.  Tell Gorilla Mobile you were referred by Cellular Abroad or enter our promo code CELLAB1 at www.gorillamobile.com and they will give you $5 in free call credit to start plus they'll waive your startup fee!  Gorilla Mobile’s phone number is 1-800-881-3004.
• Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
  No, we do not, and this is why. Technically, you are purchasing the phone from Cellular Abroad and then we are buying it back from you. The vast majority of credit card companies offer their own insurance against loss or damage for purchases, but usually not for rentals. Therefore, and given this premise, you are already covered for accidental loss or damage...at no extra charge!

Multi-Country Travel
You can also purchase other SIM cards as well for other countries to where you may be traveling. (This option is good for those planning on doing a lot of local calling.)
