Parking in Spain can be challenging in the major cities but Spain has done much to try to manage the parking problems.  On one way streets, parking is permitted on even dates along the side of the street with even numbered addresses and on the other side of the street on alternate days.  Blue Zones are restricted parking areas.  Zona Oras are zones where you must display a parking ticket which cab be purchased through magazine kiosks.

You must always carry a valid driving license as well as proof of insurance.  Police may levy a fine payable on the spot for lack of proper documentation. If you cannot pay your ticket your vehicle can be impounded.  Try to pay before that occurs in order to save further towing fees not to mention headaches.  You will usually get a discount if you pay the fine on the spot.
