While free WiFi is great when you can get it, it is rarely available in Spain, often slow and never a secure way of accessing the internet. In addition, you are limited to having to be in one spot such as a hotel lobby or a café. Cellular Abroad's WiFi Hotspot Rental for Spain is an affordable and convenient solution for anyone wanting to securely access the internet virtually anywhere in Spain. Also knows as a MiFi, this device creates your own personal hotspot. Just put it in your pocket or handbag and you and anyone near you with the password can log on with any Wi Fi enabled device such as a phone, a tablet or a computer. The MiFi allows up to ten devices to log on simultaneously. Coverage is on Orange, one of the largest carriers in Spain, with 3G coverage virtually across the country including the islands of Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca and Menorca.

Using the mobile hotspot is extremely easy. Simply turn on the device, which is the size of a small phone, and enter the password on your Wi Fi enabled device. You and your fellow travelers can check emails, stream videos and music, Skype, use Google Maps and do anything else you are accustomed to doing online. The MiFi offers 10GB of data at 4G LTE speeds which is more than enough for 99.9% of all travelers (and then the speeds drop to 2G speeds). If your rental period exceeds 30 days, you will receive an additional 10GB of data after the initial 30 days.

Please note that each 30 day period has up to 10GB of data at 3G speeds. After 10GB, the speeds reduce to 2G. 10GB of data is more than enough for 99.9% of travelers.

Rental Steps

Ordering

Order the Spain WiFi Hotspot Rental online or by calling 800.287.5072. You can order months before your trip or possibly even if you are leaving in a day or two. We can send the hotspot by ground shipping if you order 2 weeks or more before your trip. Otherwise, we will have to ship 3 day, 2 day or overnight, depending on your departure date. The rental period begins from the day of your departure until the day you come back.

Receive

You will receive a fully charged MiFi, an installed SIM card for Spain with 10GB of data, a convenient travel pouch and a charger with adapters.

Activate

Your device does not require activation. Simply turn it on, enter the log in on your WiFi enabled device and you are ready to go. Please do not use the device outside of Spain as it may not work when you try to use it in Spain.

Send Back MiFi Rental

We will send you a return label with your package. Please retain it and, upon return from your trip, drop off the package at FedEx or USPS(as per instructions) within 2 business days from the last day of your rental period.

According to Orange Espana, the carrier, there is 3G coverage availability for 98% of the inhabitants. While the coverage is excellent, no carrier can guarantee that there will be coverage everywhere at all times. When do I order?
You can order as long as you would like prior to the trip or up to one business day before your departure. Time permitting, you should try to rent at least two weeks prior in order to take advantage of the low rates associated with standard ground shipping. Ground shipping is only $12.88. If you are leaving soon, we offer round-trip 2-day Express for $29.96, or Overnight Express for $39.96. We also offer Overnight Priority and First Overnight shipping.

I live in Canada? Can I still order a Mi Fi Rental for Spain?
Yes, you certainly can but, please keep in mind that we cannot provide you with a return shipping label.

Will I have to pay for customs if you ship it to me in Canada?
Typically you will not have to pay any duties or custom for shipping to Canada. However, Cellular Abroad cannot guarantee that.

What will this cost me?

  • It depends on your rental period but there never hidden or extra fees nor charges that you don't approve. The only fee above and beyond you may occur is if you return the unit late, damaged or you don't return it.

How much is shipping?

If you order at least 2 weeks in advance, round-trip Ground shipping is only $12.88. If you are leaving soon, we offer round-trip 2-day Express for $29.96, or Overnight Express for $39.96. We also offer Overnight Priority and First Overnight shipping.

What is the latest I can order a hotspot rental?

You can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in before to 1:30pm Pacific Time. Exceptions can be made on a limited basis, even if you are leaving early in the morning - we can usually get your Wi-Fi hotspot rental to you. Please call our 800 number (rather than order via the web) in order to confirm that we can get you a phone rental on time.

Does the cell MiFi come charged?

Yes. The battery comes fully charged.

Can I charge this MiFi on my trip?

Just plug it into the wall. It comes with an plug adapter (which you can use for other devices as well).

How do I return the MiFi Rental?
Round trip shipping is included in your shipping fee. You will be provided with a return sticker label, which you can put on the box the MiFi arrived in, or your own box. If using your own box please do not use an extremely oversized box. (Canadian rental customers click here)

What happens if I cancel?
If your rental has not shipped, you will only be charged a 5% reserve fee. If your rental has been sent out, you are responsible for the one week rental fee plus the shipping fee.

Are there any surcharges or hidden fees?
No, there are no surcharges or hidden fees. All rental customers are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

What happens if my trip is extended?

Simply contact Cellular Abroad and we can extend the service.

Can I use Skype?

Yes you can.

Can I use the MiFi outside of Spain?

You cannot and should not attempt to use it outside of Spain. If you do so, it will deplete the credit very quickly and when you go back to Spain, it will not work.

What happens if I go over 10GB of data?

In the unlikely event that you reach 10GB of data within any 30 day period, the service will drop to 2G which is very slow.

Can I try the MiFi in the US or Canada before I depart?

You can turn it on but do not attempt to connect to the internet as it will drain your credit and then it will not work in Spain.
