That’s right, Cellular Abroad is offering free SMS (text messages).  SMS is short for Short Message Service and is an ideal way to communicate a short message to someone and have them receive it at their convenience (example, “please call home” or “here is the address…). While in North America, SMS are not used on a regular basis, virtually every other country in the world uses them significantly. SMS through your computer are particularly beneficial to Cellular Abroad users as it is the least expensive and probably the most convenient way to contact someone overseas with a Cellular Abroad cell phone. Here is a brief explanation of how it works as well as the benefits of SMS for those who are not familiar with this service.

If you rent or buy a cell phone from Cellular Abroad, the person who is overseas with the cell phone can send or receive short messages (generally up to 160 characters) directly on the cellular phone. Parents, business associates and friends can send and receive text messages  to the person overseas directly from the computer by logging on to Cellular Abroad. To send a text message simply enter the phone number of the recipient, write your message and select send. To receive the SMS message just log on and view the inbox.

Cellular Abroad will give you 3 free text messages so you can so for yourself the value of this service. To continue to use the service, you can prepay for your text messages with a minimum purchase of 50 SMS. The per text charge is 15 cents per text message for outgoing messages (lower rates apply for volume purchases – see below) and incoming messages are always free. On the cell phone side of the equation, incoming text messages are always free to receive while outgoing message fees vary but are often the cost of sending a local text message.
