Cellular Abroad only sells and only believes in selling "unlocked" GSM cellular phones. Our Samsung GSM cell phones, as well as all the other brands we list, will accept any SIM card you insert, regardless of the provider - just as the manufacturer produces them. It is the carrier that locks the phone so you won't place a competitor's SIM card in the cellphone. We feel, however, that you should have a choice of what carrier you can and want to use - especially since you own the phone! Our customers tend to agree based on the scores of mail we receive! When selecting a cellphone, make sure that it offers the network capability you require; 1900 Mhz for the US and Canada and 900/1800 for international use. Some cellular phones are tri band and will work domestically as well as abroad with any carrier. If you currently already have a GSM provider in the US or Canada, you can simply purchase a Samsung tri band GSM cellphone, slip out your current SIM card, place it into your new GSM phone, and you are ready to go. If you decide to change carriers in the future or to use a local carrier when traveling abroad (be sure to visit our Pre Paid SIM Cards page), you can swap SIM cards as you wish. If you are not sure if your current provider utilizes GSM, be sure to find out through them if they do! If your current provider uses a system other than GSM, you won't be able to use a GSM cellphone and all the advantages that go with GSM without switching to a provider that does.
