Map of Russia
Russia is located in Northern Asia, and borders the Arctic Ocean. Between Europe and the North Pacific Ocean, the country is magnificent and giving birth to a growing arts and cultural community. Originally founded in the twelfth century, the country has changed names and politics again and again, yet remains a gloriously beautiful and dynamic place.
The place that most visitors touch down first in Russia is Moscow. While Westerners appreciate the city, it is absolutely the place of symbolism towards spiritual and political power for Russians. Formerly known as Holy Moscow, that title says much of how it is perceived to natives.
One face that is often overlooked is that Russia is the largest country in the world in terms of area, but it is not primarily located in a favorable position in reference to the sea lanes world over. Because of its vastness, however, it is difficult to see all of Russia. So one should get to know the areas of importance in terms of what they want out of their vacation to Russia.
An addition to Russia that is almost like visiting yet another country is St. Petersburg. With its historical and fairy tale settings, incorporating so many parts of Russia, yet a little on the European side, this city is bursting at the seams with change and history merging. Palaces and churches attract visitors from all over, yet the simplicity of the people make pursuing the other areas of the country irresistible. Visitors are often astounded by the things not advertised or well-known, the aspects of the country that are grasped only in the experience.
Visiting Russia is like visiting a whole continent, as the different parts and sections present a whole new world, with each transition. It is an unbeatable experience, a country that begs to be explored and lead you on your own unique journey through its present and past, both evident in all that you see.
