If you experience any technical difficulties with your phone or SIM card and you do not contact Cellular Abroad for technical support by phone or by email during your trip, we cannot offer any refund or compensation.

Dialing information
Your phone needs to be an unlocked dual-band, tri-band or quad-band GSM phone capable of functioning on the 900/1800 MHz GSM band in order to accept the SIM card.

Your New Zealand Cell to US: 001 – area code – phone number
US to Your New Zealand Cell: 011 – 64 – your New Zealand number (drop 0 at beginning of SIM number)
Your New Zealand Cell Number to New Zealand: area code - phone number
New Zealand to Your New Zealand Cell Number: area code - phone number

Important: US toll free numbers are not accessible from overseas. Be sure to get valid international numbers prior to your departure.

Please Note: There is no support for service when roaming outside of New Zealand.

Rental / Phone Purchase Setup

  • The SIM Card has been inserted
  • Make sure the phone is charged
  • Upon arrival you must acquire and add a credit voucher (Vodafone brand)
  • To add the voucher call 777 from your phone and follow the prompts
  • Once the credit is successfully applied you may make or receive calls

Setup For SIM Card Purchases Only

  • Snap out the SIM chip from the SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone with the metal portion facing down as to make contact with the contact prongs.
  • Make sure the phone is charged
  • Upon arrival you must acquire and add a credit voucher (Vodafone brand)
  • To add the voucher call 777 from your phone and follow the prompts
  • Once the credit is successfully applied you may make or receive calls

Call Credit
You may check your remaining call credit as you please by calling 729 or 0800 729 021 from your cell phone.

Purchasing More Talk Time
The most convenient way is by calling Cellular Abroad 001 310-862-7100 or, from New Zealand, Toll Free 24/7 from a landline in New Zealand at 00 800 3623 3333 (English speaking reps).Each $26 recharge voucher offers approximately 23 minutes of calls to the US or New Zealand.

Alternatively, recharge vouchers are available in most supermarkets, service stations and selected dairies and appliance stores in New Zealand.

Adding Call Credit
Even if you have zero credit, since incoming calls are always free, you will still be able to receive calls. Here's how to add the call credit:

  • Gently scratch the protective coating off the back of the recharge card to reveal a 12 digit code
  • Call 777 from your "New Zealand" phone, and follow the prompts.
  • An electronic voice will repeat the numbers back to you. Confirm the numbers are correct.

Voicemail
You can then check for messages, change your greeting and other functions. You pay no more than 20c to listen to your messages, regardless of how long it takes.

  • Dial 707 from your cellular phone (within New Zealand only)
  • Dial +6421700700 from any landline phone (within New Zealand or from overseas).

Troubleshooting
If you are unable to make or receive calls switch networks on your phone.  Consult your phone’s manual.  The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Available Network/Change Network > Search
  • Select a different network carrier than the one currently shown.

If you are receiving no reception bars, emergency calls only, SOS, or no service
check your phones band setting:  Consult your phone’s manual. The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Network Setup >Band
  • Make sure you select 900/1800

Customer Service
For network or service issues:

  • Dial 777 from your handset.  Vodafone customer service is 24/7 .
  • 0800 800 021 from any New Zealand phone.
  • Dial +64 9 3552007 from outside of New Zealand.

Rates
There are 3 domestic calling options available with the Vodafone PrePay card.

  • The first plan is the Prepay Nights and Weekends Plan.
  • The second plan, which may work out better for some is the Prepay Anytime Plan. Calls are charged at a minimum of 60 seconds for the first minute or part minute. Any additional time is charged by the second (1/60 of a minute).
  • The Motormouth Prepay is best for someone calling mostly Vodafone mobiles or landlines in New Zealand. All prices include GST.

Incoming calls are always FREE, regardless of their origin.
SMS text messages are 20 NZ cents for up to 160 characters. Receiving messages is free.

Switching Calling Plans:
To switch the Prepay calling option to one of the other plans, the first change is free. After that, it will cost you $19.95 NZD each time you change from one calling plan to another. Call 777 free from your cell phone in order to make the switch.

Service Life
Your New Zealand PrePay SIM card and initial call credit are valid for 12-months from the time of activation. Recharge cards extend the service life for an additional 12 months from the date the airtime is credited to your SIM card. If do not recharge your New Zealand SIM card within 12 months your SIM card will be deactivated and you will lose all call credit.
To inquire about the possibility of extending your SIM card’s service life while outside the SIM card’s country of origin contact the telecom provider's customer service, Cellular Abroad does not provide support for this feature.
