MiFi for Latin America

The MiFi, also known as a mobile wifi hotspot, is a device about the size of a small cell phone, that you can easily fit in your pocket , purse or backpack. The MiFi allows you to connect up to 10 devices at a time including smartphones, tablets and PCs. This is an extremely effective solution for travelers who have multiple devices, or travelers who are traveling with others, and need internet access in South America. Popular travel apps include Skype, Google Maps and Google Voice Translator and are useful tools for tourists and business travelers alike. The MiFi includes a data SIM card with 1GB of data at 3G speeds. The SIM card is valid for 365 days. You can add additional data credit during or prior to your trip.

Convenient

WiFi hotspots are not easy to find in Latin America and free service is even more challenging. Our MiFi will give you and your fellow travelers secure data connectivity virtually any time, any where.

Secure

Public hotspots are never secure. In fact, 90% of security breaches occur precisely where tourist tend to congregate, such as hotels and tourist locations. The MiFi for Latin America offers secure connectivity so you can safely do online banking or other password sensitive activities.

Cost Effective

This solution is significantly less expensive than 3G data roaming with a US or Canadian carrier and less expensive than what hotels typically charge for wifi.

The 1GB Data SIM Card currently works in 14 countries as outlined below.
  • Argentina
  • Azores
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • Mexico
  • Nicaragua
  • Panama
  • Peru
  • Uruguay
  • Venezuela

How It Works

The MiFi comes together with a 1GB data SIM card. To use the device, make sure the battery is charged then turn it on. Search for the wifi on your device. Enter the security password and connect. If you need another 1GB of data, you can purchase another 1GB SIM card and insert it in the MiFi. If you are using a phone with your mobile hotspot, you will receive a text message indicating your consumption when you have used 75% and 95% of the 1GB. Each SIM card lasts for 30 days or 1GB of data consumption, whichever comes first. Itís that simple.

Important FAQs for MiFi purchases

What is a Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot?

A mobile Wi-Fi hotspot is a portable device that allows you to access the internet on the go. As the Wi-Fi hotspot has no wires and does not need to be plugged in, you can literally slip it in your pocket and have a mobile data connection follow you as you walk around. If you are in a group, others in your group (as long as they have the password), can also access the internet on their device as long as they are within approximately 30 feet of you.

Why should I purchase and not rent?

If your trip is longer than several weeks or you plan on traveling again in the future, it is more cost effect to purchase a MiFi. On the other hand, if your trip is less than a few weeks and you are not planning on traveling again soon, we also do offer MiFi Rentals.

Why should I pay for wifi when I can get it for free?

If you are planning on staying in hotels or a villa where you know that there is free wifi AND you donít need to access the internet during the day AND you are not worried about security (ex. Not doing online banking) then you can probably get away with the free wifi. Many travelers, especially those who can afford it, love the idea of using Google Maps, being able to research a cafť or restaurant or even buy museum tickets on the go during their trip.
