Rent a cell phone for your trip to Japan. Cellular Abroad offers cellular phone rentals for Japan and for over 115 other countries. Unlike traditional cell phone rental options where besides the cell phone rental, you also pay expensive per minute usage rates, our solution allows you to take advantage of the low local rates that the Japanese are paying, regardless of the length of your trip. These rates are extremely advantageous and even include unlimited FREE incoming calls!

Together with a handset rental, you will also need to purchase a prepaid Japan recharge voucher which provides 3000 Yen initial airtime. The phone is prepaid so that you will never receive a phone bill and will always be in complete control of your expenditures. If needed, you can simply add more talk time to the card by purchasing scratch off recharge cards at convenience stores, including 7-11s (in Japan) and entering in the PIN number on the handset. And since incoming calls are always free, even if you have depleted your credit you can still receive incoming calls from anywhere in the world.

The Japan flip phone is available for rent on a weekly or monthly basis. Remember, in addition to the phone rental rate, the purchase of at least 3000 Yen airtime credit for $39 is required.

Together with your cellular phone rental, you receive a 3000 Yen recharge voucher to provide additional airtime. The 3000 Yen voucher is $39 and credit is deducted at the rates below. Your Japan phone rental includes the following:

• Free incoming calls from anywhere in the world.
• Domestic calls are 100 Yen per minute (approximately US$0.85)
• International calls to the USA and Canada are 90 Yen per minute peak and 54 off-peak (approximately US$0.75 and $0.45 respectively)
• Send/receive e-mails via the internet through your Japan cell phone
• Outgoing e-mail is app US$0.04/mail.
• Obtain your Japan cell phone number prior to your trip

The special package gives you everything you need to make and receive cell phone calls in Japan. The charger is 100 volts and works only in Japan. It is pre-charged for your convenienc. Please do not attempt to charge the phone in the US as there is potential for damaging the phone!

Your Japan Cell Phone Number:
Your Japan cellular phone number will come together with your Japan cell phone package. You will find the number on the side of the box, starting with "090" or "080" .

Activating Your Service:

• Go To Japan
• Charge your cell phone
• Dial 1400 + the phone icon
• Press 2
• Press the phone icon to end call
• Your phone is now registered

Adding Talk Time:
You may purchase recharge cards at Japanese 7-Elevens, AU mobile stores and most other convenience shops. Recharge cards (called the PreCa) are available in denominations of 3,000, 5,000 Yen.

• Scratch off the silver scratch off area on your phone card to expose the 12 digit PIN.
• Dial 1400 and then the send key.
• Follow the instructions and press 2
• Input the 12 digit card number and press the # sign.
• Push the phone icon to end call
• You have now added additional talk time to your phone

Customer Service:
You may call the J-Phone Customer Service in Japan by dialing 157 from your handset. This number is toll free.

Service Life:
The initial expiration period of the Japan phone is 60 days from the activation date. You can, however, extend the valid period up to 360 days by adding additional talk time. You also have 180 days from the last day of the expiration period within which you can maintain your number and re-use your cell phone by adding a recharge voucher.

What is your departure date?

** Your order will reflect the purchase of the 3000 Yen recharge voucher for $39 plus a $399 deposit to cover the cell phone. We will refund the deposit to your credit card minus the fee for the rental period you requested upon the successful return of your phone rental unit. Please note late fees may be assessed if applicable.

Rental periods will commence on the date of departure and end the date the cellphone rental is dropped off or picked up by Fed Ex for return to Cellular Abroad. Fed Ex tracking information will be used to ascertain drop-off and pick-up dates. We are sorry but rentals cannot be shipped to or from customers overseas.

If you buy the recharge cards in Japan and are applying the credit yourself, simply scratch off the protective panel, follow our detailed instructions to enter the code number and your credit is applied.

Convenient Tip: You can purchase additional recharge codes via phone whenever you need to add more call credits to your prepaid account. No need to physically ship the cards! Important FAQs for Rentals

• When do I order?
  You can order as far in advance as you like - even months prior to your departure. We will not ship your rental until the appropriate date in order for you to receive it in time for your departure. Rentals are typically shipped FedEx 2-Day service, unless faster service is required.
• What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
  You can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in prior to 4pm Pacific Time. Even if you are leaving early in the morning, we can usually have your cell phone rental arrive to you in time. Please call our 800 number to order to ensure that we can get you your cell phone rental in time.
• When do I get the phone?
  You will receive your cell phone rental a day or two prior to your departure.
• Does the cell phone come charged?
  Yes it does. You need only insert the SIM chip into the rental phone's SIM card slot, which is easily done. (Please let us know if you would like for us to do this for you.)
• What happens if I cancel?
  As long as your cell phone rental has not been shipped, you will only be charged the reserve fee ($25 per phone). In the case that your rental has been sent out, you are only responsible for a one week rental plus the shipping.
• When do I get charged for my cell phone rental?
  You will be charged upon checkout for the full security deposit. Please see our Rental Agreement
• What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?
  That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their long distance company.  We recommend a company called Gorilla Mobile for those calls because they have low rates internationally and their service can even be used from a US cell phone.  Tell Gorilla Mobile you were referred by Cellular Abroad or enter our promo code CELLAB1 at www.gorillamobile.com and they will give you $5 in free call credit to start plus they'll waive your startup fee!  Gorilla Mobile’s phone number is 1-800-881-3004.
• Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
  No, we do not, and this is why. Technically, you are purchasing the phone from Cellular Abroad and then we are buying it back from you. The vast majority of credit card companies offer their own insurance against loss or damage for purchases, but usually not for rentals. Therefore, and given this premise, you are already covered for accidental loss or damage...at no extra charge!
