There are two rental packages available. The standard rental package features either a Haier D6000 tri band cell phone. This is a standard "candy bar"-style cell phone. Our special Motorola V180 rental features a small flip-style phone with a color screen and speakerphone capabilities. Both packages require and include the purchase of a $29 initial airtime voucher, which is automatically added to your rental.

Italy €15 Prepaid Recharge only $29.00 for €15 of talk time credit WILL ONLY WORK FOR UNO (not TIM) **Your Italian phone number must begin with 377305 or be a new customer** Save time by starting your stay in the Italy with an additional €15 of talk time. Each one of these recharges gives you about 85 minutes outgoing within Italy or 42 minutes outgoing calls to the US.

Our Rental Packages
Your phone will also be equipped with a working SIM card for Italy. The card is linked to a prepaid account so that you will never receive a phone bill and will always be in complete control of your expenditures. If you have depleted your credit you can still receive incoming calls from anywhere in the world since they are free. Note: There is no initial talk time credit on this prepaid account.

To add credit to your account, purchase a recharge card and enter the unique code into the handset. These recharge cards are available through Cellular Abroad as well as in Italy. We offer the 15 Euro denomination recharge vouchers. In addition to buying them at the time you place your rental order, you can also purchase the codes from us while you are in Italy . Just give us a call and we will read you off the code over the phone and also send you a text message with the code.

The purchase of one initial 15 Euro recharge voucher is required with any rental package; this will be automatically added to your package price upon checkout so it is not necessary to add this to your order.  If you need additional recharges they are available from Cellular Abroad as a convenient alternative to purchasing them in Italy.  Your price is $29. This will provide approximately. 42 minutes of outgoing talk time to the US, as much as 85 minutes within Italy and of course, unlimited incoming calls from anywhere. You can start off with more than one recharge voucher or you can easily add talk time during your trip.

Important FAQs for Rentals

• When do I order?
  You can order as far in advance as you like - even months prior to your departure. We will not ship your rental until the appropriate date in order for you to receive it in time for your departure. Rentals are typically shipped FedEx 2-Day service, unless faster service is required.
• What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
  Although it's not recommended to place your order at the last minute, you can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in prior to 4pm Pacific Time. Even if you are leaving early in the morning, we can usually get your phone to you. Please call our 800 number (rather than order via the web) in order to confirm that we can get you your cell phone rental on time. Please take into account that bad weather can sometimes delay FedEx shipments. Cellular Abroad cannot refund the price of priority shipping for orders placed the day before departure if the package arrives late due to the weather.
• When do I get the phone?
  You will receive your cell phone rental a day or two prior to your departure.
• Does the cell phone come charged?
  Yes it does. You need only insert the SIM chip into the rental phone's SIM card slot, which is easily done. (Please let us know if you would like for us to do this for you.)
• How many minutes do I have?
  Along with your rental you are purchasing an initial $29 credit voucher which will start you off with about 42 minutes of calls to the US or 85 minutes of calls within Italy.  Additional vouchers may be purchased from Cellular Abroad or from many retailers throughout Italy.
• What happens if I cancel?
  As long as your cell phone rental has not been shipped, you will only be charged the reserve fee ($25 per phone). In the case that your rental has been sent out, you are only responsible for a one week rental plus the shipping.
• When do I get charged for my cell phone rental?
  You will be charged upon checkout for the full security deposit. Please see our Rental Agreement
• What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?
  That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their long distance company.  We recommend a company called Gorilla Mobile for those calls because they have low rates internationally and their service can even be used from a US cell phone.  Tell Gorilla Mobile you were referred by Cellular Abroad or enter our promo code CELLAB1 at www.gorillamobile.com and they will give you $5 in free call credit to start plus they'll waive your startup fee!  Gorilla Mobile’s phone number is 1-800-881-3004.
• Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
  No, we do not, and this is why. Technically, you are purchasing the phone from Cellular Abroad and then we are buying it back from you. The vast majority of credit card companies offer their own insurance against loss or damage for purchases, but usually not for rentals. Therefore, and given this premise, you are already covered for accidental loss or damage...at no extra charge!
