Ireland (O2) Prepaid SIM Instructions

If you experience any technical difficulties with your phone or SIM card and you do not contact Cellular Abroad for technical support by phone or by email during your trip, we cannot offer any refund or compensation.

Dialing information
Your phone needs to be an unlocked dual-band, tri-band or quad-band GSM phone capable of functioning on the 900/1800 MHz GSM band in order to accept the SIM card.

Your Ireland Cell to US: 001 – area code – phone number
US to Your Ireland Cell: 011 – 353 – 9-digit number (drop 0 in 10-digit phone number)
Your Ireland Cell Number to Ireland: area code - phone number
Ireland to Your Ireland Cell Number: area code - phone number

Important: US toll free numbers are not accessible from overseas. Be sure to get valid international numbers prior to your departure.

Please Note: There is no support for service when roaming outside of Ireland.

Rental Setup

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.
  • Once in Ireland, call Customer Support at 1747 to select your calling plan.
  • Start calling.

For SIM Card Purchases Only
Snap out the SIM chip from the SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone with the metal portion facing down as to make contact with the contact prongs.

  • If prompted for a PIN #, enter the PIN code supplied with your SIM card. Cellular Abroad suggests you set your phone's PIN-check setting to OFF while using your Ireland SIM card.
  • Call Customer Support at 1747 to select your calling plan.

PIN and PUK codes
The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code prevents unauthorized access to the SIM card in your phone. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times in a row, the SIM card will be blocked. To un-block the SIM card, you will need to enter the PUK (Personal Unlock Key) code. Please consult your manual for how to disable the PIN-check feature.

Activating your service

  • Go to Ireland
  • Switch on your phone
  • Your first outgoing call activates the service.

Checking Your Credit
Dial *100# and then the SEND key (the green phone button)

Purchasing More Talk Time
Additional talk time for your Ireland Prepaid SIM Card may be added by purchasing recharge cards in €5 €10, €15, and €20 denominations. Vouchers are available from convenience stores, O2 dealers, tobacco shops and petrol stations.

Adding Talk Time
Even if you have zero credit, since incoming calls are always free, you will still be able to receive calls.

  • Scratch the scratch-off portion of the card to reveal voucher number.
  • Enter *104*(top up amount)*(voucher code)#  then press <send>

Voicemail
To activate voicemail just dial 171 from your mobile handset.  For voicemail help dial 888 from your mobile handset.

If you receive a voice message, you will receive a text message

  • Dial 171 (and then talk or send)
  • Initial password is 0 0 0 0
  • Follow the prompts

You can also record a personalized greeting.

To delete a message

Press 5

To replay a message

Press 11

To fast forward eight seconds

Press 3

To end message

Press 33

To rewind eight seconds

Press 1

To pause/resume

Press 7

To return a call

Press 22

All played messages will be deleted automatically after 7 days, and any un-played messages will be deleted automatically after 15 days.

Troubleshooting
If you are unable to make or receive calls switch networks on your phone.  Consult your phone’s manual.  The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Available Network/Change Network > Search
  • Select a different network carrier than the one currently shown.

If you are receiving no reception bars, emergency calls only, SOS, or no service
check your phones band setting:  Consult your phone’s manual. The steps will be like these:

  • Menu > Settings/Setup > Network > Network Setup >Band
  • Make sure you select 900/1800

Customer Service
For network or service issues:

  • Call 1747 any time from your cell phone.
  • To dial from a landline from within Ireland dial 185061747.

Rates
The calling rates are expressed in Euro cents. Charges are shown per minute, but charged per second.

Domestic Calls
Domestic rates are per minute for outgoing calls within Ireland from your Ireland SIM card. All incoming calls, regardless of where they originate, are FREE with your Ireland SIM card.

Service Life
Your initial card is valid for 12 months from the time of activation.  Adding a recharge voucher will extend the life of your SIM for 12 months from the date the voucher was added.  If you do not recharge within the 12 month period, your phone number will be recycled and any remaining airtime credit will be forfeited.  

To inquire about the possibility of extending your SIM card’s service life while outside the SIM card’s country of origin contact the telecom provider's customer service, Cellular Abroad does not provide support for this feature.
