The National Geographic Talk Abroad 'Lite' Phone

SIM Cards

A SIM card is a small chip that goes into GSM handsets, giving you the service. All AT&T and T-Mobile phones (with the exception of very old phones) have a SIM card. Without a SIM card, these phones will not work as it is the SIM card that give you the cellular service. If your phone is unlocked and compatible for overseas use, we recommend that you simply swap out the SIM card that you currently have and slip in either a country specific SIM card (ex. An Italian SIM card from an Italian carrier and with an Italian cell phone number) or, the National Geographic Travel SIM. Here is further information on each.

The National Geographic Travel SIM is the perfect product for travelers who need a reliable and affordable cellular communications solution with superb performance and free customer service from the handset. We know that you have choices. Unfortunately, you usually get what you pay for. The National Geographic Travel SIM utilizes similar technologies and carriers as the large telecom conglomerates – for a fraction of the price. Buyer beware of roaming solutions that are too inexpensive as they almost always rely on sub-standard carriers or Voip. When cheap is not reliable, it is no longer a good value. The National Geographic Travel SIM offers unlimited free incoming calls in over 50 countries as well as affordable outgoing rates in approximately 130 countries. We are extremely customer service oriented – that is why the National Geographic Travel SIM offers unlimited toll free customer care service from the handset. We are not aware of any other carrier on the planet that offers this convenience.

Country Specific SIM cards continue to be extremely popular with travelers. The two main perks are that first, you get a local phone number of the country for which you purchased the SIM card and second, calling rates are almost always less expensive than with a roaming SIM. In fact, some countries cost only approximately a dime to call back to the US or Canada. Another perk, as with all of our products, is that there are never any unexpected bills to pay nor contracts to sign.
