The National Geographic Talk Abroad 'Lite' Phone

Japan Cell Phone Service

Japan has its own cellular standard that is incompatible with all but very few handsets offered by US carriers. Therefore, 99.9% of all travelers to Japan who need a handset will have to rent one. Cellular Abroad does offer Japanese handsets for rent and the calling rates, true to our business model, are quite affordable as well as on a pay as you go basis. The service that we offer is through the largest carrier in Japan and works remarkably well even. The underlying technology, 3G (third generation) was invented in Japan and is slowly being adapted in other parts of the world, including by T-Mobile in the United States.

Our Japanese cellular service offers unlimited free incoming calls and the exact same outgoing rates that a typical Japanese cellular user would enjoy. Cellular Abroad supplies you with a cell phone and an initial amount of talk time. This talk time is on a prepaid basis. You can purchase more directly through Cellular Abroad or you can purchase it on an as needed basis in Japan at one of the many convenience stores.
