Talk Abroad International Rental Service

Rent the Talk Abroad™ international cell phone for your next trip overseas! Whether your plans take you to one country or many, the Talk Abroad™ has got you covered. The Talk Abroad™ international cell phone rental offers the benefit of one worldwide phone number and seamless country-to-country coverage in over 160 countries. Unlike traditional cell phone rental options, our solution offers low prepaid rates, no contracts to sign and no daily minimums. The international rates are often comparable to or less than country-specific SIM cards and all incoming calls received in Zone 1 countries are free! (Naturally, the caller pays whatever his international long-distance rate is to your number, which is based in the UK.)

Together with a handset rental, you will need to add at least $29 of talk time credit which will provide 30 minutes of outgoing talk time in Zone 1 countries. You can add as many multiples of $29 talk time recharge credits as needed either before or during your trip. (Note: There are no refunds for unused talk time.) You need at least one to get going and most people usually start off with 2-3. If you need more talk time during your trip, simply call or email Cellular Abroad and we will add your credit to your account.

Below, you'll find options for standard and deluxe rental phone packages. Cellular Abroad only rents tri-band phones. A tri-band phone will work in most countries with GSM service. Quad band phones offer the newer 850 MHz GSM band which is offered by Cingular in the US as well as other carriers in North, Central and South America. If you are planning a visit to Anguilla or Turks and Caicos, you will need a quad-band phone.
If needed, you can purchase Country-Specific SIM cards as well for other travel destinations in order to take advantage of local rates and to have a local number.

Our Rental Packages
There are two rental packages available. The standard rental package features a Haier D6000. These are all standard "candy bar"-style cell phones. Our special Motorola V180 rental features a small flip-style quad-band phone with a color display, the standard Motorola applications package, and a more durable design.

Rates:
Since the Talk Abroad is an international roaming card, ALL base rates are flat rates inclusive of roaming charges. All value-added service (VAS) calls including recharge requests, balance inquiries, and calls to the voicemail system are billed per minute since the length of these calls will all vary. Call surcharges (see below) are also billed per minute in addition to the base outgoing per-minute rate, NOT per connection.

Important FAQs for Rentals

• When do I order?
  You can order as far in advance as you like - even months prior to your departure. We will not ship your rental until the appropriate date in order for you to receive it in time for your departure. Rentals are typically shipped FedEx 2-Day service, unless faster service is required.
• What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
  Although it's not recommended to place your order at the last minute, you can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in prior to 4pm Pacific Time. Even if you are leaving early in the morning, we can usually get your phone to you. Please call our 800 number (rather than order via the web) in order to confirm that we can get you your cell phone rental on time. Please take into account that bad weather can sometimes delay FedEx shipments. Cellular Abroad cannot refund the price of priority shipping for orders placed the day before departure if the package arrives late due to the weather.
• When do I get the phone?
  You will receive your cell phone rental a day or two prior to your departure.
• Does the cell phone come charged?
  Yes it does. You need only insert the SIM chip into the rental phone's SIM card slot, which is easily done. (Please let us know if you would like for us to do this for you.)
• What happens if I cancel?
  As long as your cell phone rental has not been shipped, you will only be charged the reserve fee ($25 per phone). In the case that your rental has been sent out, you are only responsible for a one week rental plus the shipping.
• When do I get charged for my cell phone rental?
  We charge your credit card the same day we ship.
• What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?
  That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their long distance company.  We recommend a company called Gorilla Mobile for those calls because they have low rates internationally and their service can even be used from a US cell phone.  Tell Gorilla Mobile you were referred by Cellular Abroad or enter our promo code CELLAB1 at www.gorillamobile.com and they will give you $5 in free call credit to start plus they'll waive your startup fee!  Gorilla Mobile’s phone number is 1-800-881-3004.
• Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
  No, we do not, and this is why. Technically, you are purchasing the phone from Cellular Abroad and then we are buying it back from you. The vast majority of credit card companies offer their own insurance against loss or damage for purchases, but usually not for rentals. Therefore, and given this premise, you are already covered for accidental loss or damage...at no extra charge!
