All of our rentals includes unlimited calls within Italy, 320 minutes of calls to the US and Canada and 80GB of high speed 4G/LTE data which is virtually an unlimited amount of data. The rental comes with an Italian number. If you want to keep your current US number or get a new one, we recommend downloading Talkatone, a free app that allows unlimited calls and texts to the US and Canada. The service works on Vodafone, the largest carrier in Italy. The coverage is everywhere in Italy and, if you have a side trip outside of Italy anywhere in the EU you can use up to 5GB of data.
Our rentals are the perfect solution for using GPS, checking your emails, buying train or museum tickets online, coordinating with travel agents and your host in Italy and calling back to the US or Canada.
Also, please note that in order to download most apps, you must rent an iPhone 6 or newer. The iPhone 5 rental is recommended primarily for calling and browsing but not for downloading apps as most apps require a more recent operating system. In addition, the iPhone 5 has a small screen which may not be suitable for using GPS.
All rentals include a ready to go and charged cell phone with an Italian phone number, a charger and Italian plug adapter, a protective case, simple instructions and a return package – all packed in a convenient travel pouch. You will receive the rental 2-4 business days prior to your departure, time permitting. When back from your trip, drop off the rental in the included US Postal Service package and that’s it!

When do I order?
You can order as far in advance as you like – even months prior to your departure. We will ship your rental at the appropriate date in order for you to receive it prior to your departure. Rentals are shipped ground or express service and will arrive 2 or more business days prior to your set departure date.
How do I call the US, Canada or outside the EU
The SIM card does allow you to call anywhere to the EU, Italy and the US.
What will this cost me?
The applicable rental period fee for the duration of your rental period plus shipping and insurance, if selected.
Taxes are applicable only if you are in California.

Can I download apps?
If you log on with your Apple ID, all of your apps will automatically load. Please make sure that the apps you want to download are compatible with the version of the phone you rent. Please make sure to delete your account before returning the phone – otherwise we will have all your contact information, photos, emails and other sensitive information.
How much is shipping?
If you order at least 2 weeks in advance, round-trip Ground shipping is available. If you are leaving soon, we offer round-trip 2-day Express or Overnight Express. Please enter your details to calculate the shipping rates. All shipping rates include round trip. Rentals will arrive at least 2 business days prior to your set departure date when possible.
What is the latest I can order a rental phone?
You can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in before to 1:30pm Pacific Time. Exceptions can be made on a limited basis, even if you are leaving early in the morning – we can
Does the cell phone come charged?
Yes it does, but it’s always best to test the battery and charge phone before your departure.
Can I charge this phone on my trip?
Yes, you will receive an international charger and relevant plug adapters, so you can charge the phone in the U.S., Canada and in Italy.
How do I return the phone?
Round trip shipping is included in your shipping fee for rentals shipped within the USA. You will be provided with a prepaid USPS return package. All other customers must send back the rental at their expense. Sorry but international prepaid shipping is not available.
What happens if I cancel?
If your rental has not shipped you will receive a full refund. If your rental has been sent out, you are responsible for a two weeks rental fee plus the shipping fee.
Are there any surcharges or hidden fees?
What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?
That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their Long Distance Company or international calling card. We recommend using a app. If you download Talkatone, people in the US or Canada can call a US number..
Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?
Yes, rental insurance is available as an add-on once you add your item to the cart. The cost is $24 and it covers damage or loss of your rental.
