Locked and Unlocked Mobile Handsets
In order to be sure a pre-paid SIM card from Cellular Abroad will work in your handset, you will want to be sure that the mobile handset is "unlocked" and will accept a SIM from a mobile provider different from your regular mobile operator.

The easiest and most reliable way to test whether a phone is locked is to insert a SIM from a provider other than the one normally used in the phone. If the phone turns on, allows calls and provides access to the menus, the phone is unlocked and any SIM can be used in the phone.

If after installing a SIM from a carrier not normally used with the phone, the phone has an error message and does not allow calls or access to the normal menu features, then the phone is locked and an unlocked phone is needed in order to use a local SIM or the Talk Abroad International SIM.
