SIM Card for Germany

The Germany SIM card is not being sold until further notice due to German legislation restrictions to foreigners having German SIMs. We have another solution that, for many, is vastly superior.

The alternative is a SIM card that works all over Europe, including Germany, and offers 9GB of data plus 3,000 minutes of outgoing calls, 3,000 outgoing SMS and unlimited free incoming calls. The SIM card has a UK phone number so if, for some reason, you need a German phone number, this SIM is not for you. In addition, while you can call anywhere in Europe, to call outside of Europe (ex. USA or Canada), you will need to use an app that uses data such as Skype or Whatsapp.

I love using MY phone

I got this SIM for a trip to Germany. My cousin rented an international phone and the other family and friends just activated international service on their respected phones. The SIM seemed cheaper for me than my carrier because I was going to use mostly data (maps & info, facebook) as opposed to text and calls. All calls and texts worked fine and so did data - once I got it set up correctly.

I never used my phone in GSM mode before, but luckily I read about APNs. (Access Point Names). Within this section you have to enter all the information for the network you are connecting to. This is what allows your phone to work. Luckily within all the information I received, there was a link to get this info so I printed it out and brought it with me. I was a page long with all the info you will need. Depending on your phone, it can give you too much info. I started putting info in, then I got phone service, put in some more then got text, put in more then lost everything. Started over. Through trial and error everything worked. Next time I'll do the proper research before I go abroad.

I used my phone (Motorola Photon) abroad just like I would at home. I was very satisfied.

You must know your phone well and how to operate it. You must have an unlock code prior to leaving th US for ATT phones. You must also have internet connection to activate the sim prior to going. Then the phone model has logins and pins in order for apps to work.Quite a chore but eveything works now.

good SIM once you get it activated

Once it was finally activated, it worked fine. I didn't use all of my credit during my 1-week stay, but it was handy to have service and be able to call home.

And when you do all the math comparing the cost of the card vs. airtime credit AND the cost per minute rates of calls back to the US, it's still cheaper than the international roaming charges with my home carrier.

  • Confusing Rates
  • Poor Online Activation

Lucky I purchased this sim card before my travel to Germany. Problems with air reservations required lengthy calls back to USA - I am sure this card saved me hundreds of dollars.

Good Product overall but....

The German Sim card was very easy to use. It worked great for calls and text messages. However, I signed up for their optional data plan and I could never get it to actually work. I even tried a couple different phones. I hope that I can get it to work next time.
