Car Rentals in France
Most of the major car rental companies, including Hertz, Avis, Budget, Eurocar, etc., are available in France and can be accessed at the various terminals in the airports or from your hotels. Renting a car is expensive if you walk into an office and hire a car on the spot, but pre-booked and prepaid promotional rates are reasonable. Make sure that you rent a rental car for France before you actually get there. Also, be sure to ask for a car with manual transmission if driving a car with a stick is a problem for you. We also recommend renting a smaller car if possible, particularly if you will be driving in major cities such as Paris. Otherwise, you will find driving as well as parking a much bigger issue than what you may have bargained for.
France, for the most part, is actually a pleasure to drive in. The roads are well maintained and the indications are above average for Europe. You will find that in many cities, you must purchase a parking voucher. Most of them have English instructions and are not that difficult to use. Make sure you have plenty of Euro coins in order to pay for your parking!
