Rental Setup

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.

For SIM Card Purchases Only
Snap out the SIM chip from the SIM card and insert the chip into your GSM Phone with the metal portion facing down as to make contact with the contact prongs.

  • Make sure the phone is charged and the menu settings are in English.
  • When prompted, enter the PIN number provided on your "Personal Security Card". It is recommended that you disable the PIN-check feature so as not to inadvertently lock yourself out of your SIM. If unsure, check your phone's user manual for instructions on how to disable PIN-check.

PIN and PUK codes
The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code prevents unauthorized access to the SIM card in your phone. If you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times in a row, the SIM card will be blocked. To un-block the SIM card, you will need to enter the PUK (Personal Unlock Key) code. Please consult your manual for how to disable the PIN-check feature.

Activating Your Service

  1. Go to Cyprus
  2. Turn on your phone. "Areeba" will appear on your mobile phone screen.
  3. The first call you make activates your service
  4. Once your service is activated, you may begin to receive incoming calls.

Register your SIM card with Areeba (Optional)

  • Your line is busy
  • You have activated call divert to your voicemail for all incoming calls

You will receive a text message notification informing you that you have received a voice message.
Your 4-digit voice messaging code can be found on your personal security card. Once you have accessed the voice messaging system and listened to the automatic operator, you can change your code. To call your voicemail:

  • Dial 121 <SEND> from your cell phone
  • When prompted, enter your voice messaging code then press #
  • From a fixed phone line or a non-Areeba mobile line, dial 121yourmobilenumber. When prompted, enter your voice messaging code then press #

  • Alternately, dial *202# <Send> (free of charge). You will be given your current balance. This is useful when traveling outside Cyprus.

Purchasing More Talk TimeYour Areeba SIM card comes with 3 CYP (£) of initial call credit. Additional call credit can be added to your prepaid account by purchasing recharge vouchers (also known as top up cards). These top up cards are sold in various denominations at "Areeba" stores, supermarkets, drugstores, magazine kiosks and any convenience store displaying the Areeba logo. You can also call Areeba customer service for information on other locations or ways to add credit.

Adding Talk Time
Even if you have zero credit—since incoming calls are always free—you will still be able to receive calls. Each top up extends your service 12 months from the time of recharge. The higher the denomination of the recharge, the more bonus SMS messages are included.

Once you have purchased a recharge card, simply follow these easy instructions:

  1. Gently scratch off the protective coating on the back of the card to reveal your 14-digit voucher code
  2. From your handset, dial 2020 <SEND>
  3. Follow the automated instructions
  4. Enter the 14 digit refill code when prompted, followed by #
  5. Upon successful entry of the code, your account will be credited and you'll receive a confirmation of your new available balance.

Alternately, Dial *202* followed by the 14-digit code then # and SEND.

Booster Cards
Not to be confused with top up cards, booster cards allow you to add extra SMS message credits to your prepaid account.

Service Life
You must top up your prepaid account before your validity period ends or your account and corresponding phone number will be deactivated. If you do not top up within the validity period, any remaining credit cannot be used unless you top up again. If the validity period expires without any new top up, all outgoing calls are barred for a period of 10 days (grace period).  During this time you can top up as normal. Any unused credit will be lost if you do not top up during these 10 days.
After the end of the 12 month validity period plus the 10 days grace period, you can only make emergency calls for the next 90 days. If you want to reactivate your account you will have to visit an Areeba shop or purchase a top up card and call 136 to recharge your account. If you do not reactivate your account then you will be disconnected from the pay as you talk service and lose your mobile phone number.

To inquire about the possibility of extending your SIM card’s service life while outside the SIM card’s country of origin contact the telecom provider's customer service, Cellular Abroad does not provide support for this feature.
