Your Croatia SIM Card Cell Phone Number:
Your Croatian phone number is located on the back of the card that you pop the SIM chip out of, above the PUK codes. An example is 048 529 4658.
Activating Your Service:
- Go to Croatia.
- Make sure your cell phone is fully charged. (You can of course do this before you leave.)
- Turn on phone
- You must make a call to a local number in Croatia to activate the card.
(It's not necessary to have the call go through, though.)
- You are now ready to place or receive calls.
Language Selection:
If your GSM phone with VIP-NET Card® displays menus in Croatian and you'd like to view them in English, follow these steps: (These instructions are for the Ericsson R520. Other phones
will have their own--please consult your phone manual.)
- At the welcome screen, click the right arrow once.
- Enter "4 6 1" and then the "Yes" or "Send" button to take you to the language settings.
- Use the up/down button to take you to English.
- Click the ‹Yes/Send› button to set your selection.
Checking your credit:
You can check your account balance by calling: 917788 or press *101#. You will also receive a text message when your credit runs low.
Recharging Your SIM Card:
Recharge cards, known as VIPme vouchers are readily available at convenience stores, gas stations, VIP-NET shops, tobacco shops, magazine kiosks and other authorized outlets. (Alternately, you may purchase call credits and receive a receipt which will have your recharge code on it.) You may purchase them in denominations of 100kn and 200kn. (The 100kn denomination has a validity period of 90 days and the 200kn voucher has a 180 day validity period.) The new credit purchased is added to the existing credit. Even if you have zero credit, since incoming calls are always free, you will still be able to receive calls.
- Buy a VIPme recharge voucher
- Scratch the protective coating on the back of your card to uncover a 14-digit recharge code.
- Dial *103*, then the 14-digi refill code, then # and then <OK>
- You will be notified that the credit has been applied

Network Detection:
GSM networks broadcast their presence, so your phone will display the name of a local GSM carrier when turned on. [Note: The Ericsson R520 automatically switches bands by default, so the rest of this section will not apply if you have this phone.] If you get a message to the effect of "No network detected", you probably need to manually set your handset to switch to a foreign GSM band. Most GSM carriers in North America use 1900 MHz, while those in other parts of the world use 900/1800 MHz. To change your GSM band, consult your phone manual under "Network".

Service Life:
Credit from a 35 HRK is valid for 30 days. The 100 HRK recharge is good for 90 days and you have 180 days in which to use the credit from a 200HRK voucher. After the expiration of the credit, there is a 90 grace period during which credit can be added and the phone number retained. If more than 90 days go by after the expiration of the credit, the SIM card and corresponding phone number become invalid.
Multi-Country Travel
You can also purchase other SIM cards as well for other countries to where you may be traveling. (This option is good for those planning on doing a lot of local calling.) We also offer an international roaming Talk Abroad™ SIM Card that is convenient for travel to multiple countries. (This option is useful for those wanting a single number for use in multiple countries and who will be making more calls back home than locally.) |
