Austria offers plenty of hotels and other accommodations varying from ultra luxurious to "roof over your head" with no service but inexpensive (and better than sleeping on a park bench). Whatever your budget, you should be able to find available accommodations. For some of the better deals, some of which are listed below, you might want to plan ahead as much as possible, especially during the peak summer months. There are also a couple of considerations and tips to bear in mind regarding staying in an Austrian hotel.

Check-in times are almost always at 1pm. If you arrive early in the morning, don't expect to be able to show up hours before 1pm and get a room - at least not without making special arrangements prior to your arrival. The vast majority of hotels will hold your luggage until check in time and, if you are up for it, you can take advantage of the time to get a bite to eat or do some site seeing. Be sure to tip hotel employees who render you services and a restaurants where 10-15 percent is acceptable. Speaking of money, you will need to exchange your dollars into Euros. While many hotels offer currency exchange services, you are best off using alternative sources for exchanging dollars into Euros. The best choice is to go to a local bank where they will give you favorable rates. You should usually avoid agencies that specialize in exchanging currency unless you do some shopping around, including these agencies at the airport. Try not to obtain Euros in the US (or Canada), or at least no more than necessary, before your trip as you will find inflated surcharges. It is recommended that you do many of your purchases with a credit card for a couple of reasons. First, the exchange rates on credit cards are usually quite fair and secondly, since Europe does not have as lax of an exchange or refund policy as the US, and, since there is a possibility of losing or breaking souvenirs while traveling, if you use a credit card, you are usually covered for such eventualities.

Here is another inexpensive hotel and a fine alternative to the Binder if it already booked up. The front rooms offer views of the river and town and the location is a five minute walk from the center. There is a downstairs nightclub but accordingly, the patrons are not so rambunctious that you can't get any shuteye. Still, this hotel is popular with a younger crowd. Don't expect much if any service from this hotel. Bathrooms are not available in all rooms.

Goldener Adler
The Goldener Adler is a beautiful hotel in the center of Innsbruck and is relatively inexpensive. Best Western has unfortunately recently acquired this historic hotel. What was once a service oriented hotel has become a dull, standardized hotel albeit in a beautiful and convenient setting. Prices are relatively low and you can get good deals depending on what time of year you book. The rooms vary tremendously so make sure you ask for one of the larger ones with a view. If location is your main concern, this hotel is a good choice.

Hotel Europa Tyrol
The most luxurious hotel in Innsbruck is arguably the Hotel Europa Tyrol. Just opposite the main train station, this centrally located hotel dates back to 1869 and has hosted many notables including Queen Elizabeth II, General Patton and the Shah of Iran. Rooms are handsomely furnished and can accommodate the business travelers needs. The uniformed staff is very service oriented and friendly.

If you want to be in the center of town yet appreciate piece and quite and verdant surroundings, this is your hotel. You can reach the old town within 7 minutes by using the "Msnchstein Panorama Path" and an elevator, which is built into the mountain, or by car. If you can only dream a castle but afford a shanty, the Schwarzes Rössl is one of your best bets. Great location, cozy and clean rooms at rock bottom prices characterize this hotel. During most of the year, this hotel serves as student quarters but there are a few months during the year that this hotel welcomes tourists. Of course, as with all great bargain, availability is scarce so book in advance!
